full english beat breakfast
The long awaited third album from Big Boss Man; ‘Full English Beat Breakfast’ is released from September 2009.
Recorded by the band at their 8-track ramshackle studio and mixed by Nick Terry (Klaxons, SMD) at Studio 2 at The
Premises, Hackney, London. Big Boss Man have been described by Russian TV as "the Worlds hottest Hammond beat
group" and currently hold the record for the longest drum break at the 2007 World Breaks & Beats Festival in Helsinki. Not
wishing to let this go to their head they thought it was high time they got back into the studio to complete album number
three. They got down to business after finally getting over their collective hangover from their mini-tour of Tinkoff Brewery
music venues in some of the more remote parts of Russia. The locals treated them to a touch of Beatlemania with clothes
being ripped off and the band had to have security at all times, not that they’re complaining!
As usual the band have made good use of their extensive collection of vintage (and temperamental) gear for Full English.
Head honcho Nasser (a.k.a the Bongolian) plays mini-VIP, Farfisa and Hammond organs, Wurlitzer piano, Moog synths and
drums and percussion. Driving fuzz guitar and bass beat is provided by bassman Scott Milsom "the Hawk" and guitarist Trev
Harding. The band have once again created a superb spaced-out selection of prime 60’s inspired dance floor tracks: Northern Soul vibes with ‘Black Eye’, garage sounds with ‘The Bloater’, Boogaloo with ‘Pies and Pastiche’ and even samba with ‘Full Brazilian’.

The Boss has been tearing it up for years now with a blend of organ heavy grooves, funky drums, vamping guitars and even some occasional vocals -- and Full English Beat Breakfast is as loveable as anything they've done to date"

about big boss man
Big Boss Man formed in 1999 when three long time friends Nass, Trev and Scott, got together for some Hammond heavy action. They released their album debut ‘Humanize’ (Blow Up) in 2001 which precipitated a wave of interest in the band, and
was a clear definition of the BBM sound: a hip Hammond hybrid of 60's and 70's drenched R’n'B, Funk, Latin, Jazz,
Soul and Pop. The album went on to be used exclusively as the soundtrack for the 2002 BAFTA nominated short film‘Sweet’ featuring The Mighty Boosh (Big Boss Man performing in the nightclub sequences in the film), as well as tracks appearing on numerous compilations. Party 7 from Humanize was featured in the Thierry Henry and Eric Cantona NIKE
WORLDCUP worldwide advert in 2006 and subsequently released as a limited single. Their 2005 follow up ‘Winner‘ (Blow Up) was
produced by the band and Morgan Nicholls (The Streets / Muse / Gorillaz). Morgan (the son of Immediate Records’ inhouse
songwriter Billy Nicholls), had a studio choc-full of groovy stuff: The Who’s Hammond, Steve Marriott’s first guitar,
Clavis and Wurlis, all of which were put to good use on the album which continued the trip from where Humanize left off -
through 60’s Funk, along the way taking in Bongo/Fuzz, Latin Soul, French Beat, Boogaloo and general Hammond/Moog mentalness everywhere else!
Big Boss Man have also worked on numerous other projects including remixes for Paul Weller (The Bottle), a solo project from Nasser as The Bongolian (three albums The Bongolian, Blueprint, Outer Bongolia for Blow Up) on which he played all the instruments himself. Following the inclusion on the Thievery Corporation’s ‘Outernational Sound’ compilation, Big
Boss Man’s dancefloor favourite ‘Sea Groove’ was also used by the Red Cross for a nationwide
campaign in the USA this year. The original 7" version of Sea Groove now valued at £25 in the official Record Collector
guide – although that’s if you can find one!
Big Boss Man will shortly be announcing an extensive European Tour for Autumn/Winter 2009/10.

remixes
BBM also found time to work their magic on a re-mix of Japanese sensation Mansfield's track "If I Want It" for his album "Golden Hour", as well as reworking an obscure 60's cult Euro TV theme, "Robbi, Tobbi..." for Germany's Diggler records. Most recently, BBM were requested to provide two remix versions of Paul Weller's UK Top 20 hit The Bottle (2004), both of which featured on a limited 7"-only version of the single which sold out on the day of release (and is now doing a roaring trade on E-bay!). The band have also featured on numerous compilations. (See releases on which BBM feature here).
other projects
You may also know Nasser as his alter-ego The Bongolian, a dirty funk driven solo project for Blow Up which saw him exploring his talents as a multi-instrumentalist, writing, recording and performing his eponymous long-player all by himself. Loaded magazine said: "one of the best British funk releases in years. Pay attention, Jay Kay." Although having all bases covered on record, it's simply not possible to play everything live, so amongst others Nasser has enlisted Trevor for the live shows.
Nasser has also been touring with Holly Golightly in the UK and the USA (as well as supporting as The Bongolian), as well as being busy recording with her on her forthcoming new album. Scott has just come back from a year in Berlin, where he was involved with various live performance projects. He also plays with the cult Psychobilly band The Coffin Nails. |
