Originally called 'The Black & Silver Livery' (in reference to the colours of locomotives of the LMS Railway) from lead singer and songwriter James Orman's encyclopeadic knowledge of anything connected to railways. James and three other willing London-based eccentrics Simon Harris (Organ and singing), Alex Sawyer (The Drumkit) and Joe Hurley (Bass guitar and singing) together form SILVERY, bringing together a sound and vision immersed in a world of Victorian London, soundtracked by musical influences from Bowie, Blur, Sparks to XTC. The result is an Organ-led, energetic maelstrom from a band who are “not afraid to play very fast, and not afraid to play very slow.”
Silvery released their debut album ‘Thunderer & Excelsior’ in August 2008 - a 14-track blast of infectious eccentric British pop. Crafted in their East London studio with Kevin Feazey and mastered by John Davis, the album features singles 'Horrors'/'Orders', 'Devil In The Detail', ‘Action Force’ and current release 'The Nishikado'. The album has won the band fans across press and radio such as Steve Lamacq, Gary Crowley, Marc Riley, Mark Lamarr and David Quantick, and was placed at No.19 by Artrocker Magazine in their Top 50 Albums of 2008 this January. Following the release of ‘Thunderer & Excelsior' Silvery have recorded a BBC Radio 1 Session for Steve Lamacq and a BBC 6 Music Session for Marc Riley, as well as picking up almost every accolade to be won on BBC 6 Music: Rebel Playlist Winner ('You Give A Little Love'), Single of The Week ('Action Force'/'The Nod'), Round Table Winner ('Devil In The Detail') and Album of the Day ('Thunderer & Excelsior'). Their debut single ‘Horrors’/’Orders’ also won Zane Lowe’s Fresh Meat on BBC Radio 1, the animated video for which (directed by Alistair Brotherson) won Best Music Video at this years London Short Film Festival this January.
Last year Silvery played at Rough Trade East’s 1st Birthday celebrations, Amsterdam’s annual London Calling festival and were invited by British Sea Power to appear at their ‘Sing Ye From The Hillsides’ Tan Hill festival, and played again with the band in October. They were also flown out to play in Moscow last Spring, and it went so well they were invited back this May for another two shows. Stay tuned for more shows to be announced this Summer.
